Wealthy British Shipping Tycoon Andreas Liveras Shot in Mumbai Hotel Attacks

A British shipping tycoon died after being gunned down by terrorists in a Mumbai hotel today.
Andreas Liveras, a 73 year-old entrepreneur spoke of his terror on his mobile phone, as he and other guests were locked in the basement of the fivestar Taj hotel while gunmen ran amock and bombs exploded.

Liveras was one of hundreds of guests huddled in the basement of the famous Taj hotel in south Mumbai attacked last night India time in the horrific and mass scale terror shootings and bombings across the commercial capital of India.

Its not clear what happened to the other tourists, hotel staff and locals huddled in the hotel basement with the deceased well known tycoon.

Indian military have boarded a ship with origins in Karachi Pakistan, as media speculate that the terrorists involved in the situation in Mumbai are Pakistani nationals.

The navy has "located the ship and now we are in the process of boarding it and searching it," an offical said.

Earlier, Indian media showed pictures of black and yellow rubber dinghies found by the shore near the famous Taj Hotel on the Mumbai shore front. They were apparently used by the gunmen to reach the area, media reported.

Even in a country used to the sight of bombings and other attacks due to the various levels of ethnic, religious and political tensions, Indian media and people are struggling to comprehend the magnitude and scale of the situation in city of 20 million, Mumbai.

CNN-IBN TV host said that it was something "straight out of a Hollywood blockbuster" as she crossed to a correspondent outside one of a number of hotels were terrorist gunman have taken "Western hostages".

A number of anti-terrorist police and officials lost their lives in the attacks which saw gunmen dressed in black raiding five star hotels, resteraunts, cinemas, shopping centres, train stations, a domestic airport and a hospital.

The attacks saw men in mulitple viechles driving around the city shooting indiscrimanatley at unsuspectign people in the streets and at the various sites around Mumbai. A number of car bombs also explode around the city. The number of incidents and gunmen is still unclear even now.

Fires are still raging at various hotels in the city and chaos still reigns.
